Supervision of spiritual directors is an essential process for the ministry of spiritual direction. The supervision process invites the spiritual director to take time to explore what is beneath the surface: to better understand oneself, to discover how to best accompany seekers, and to acknowledge how Spirit is present and active in the spiritual direction relationship.
So how are supervisors formed? What is unique in the process of supervision of spiritual directors as opposed to other forms of ministry supervision? Join us in this conversation with Lucy to explore the subject of supervision of spiritual directors.
In her recent book, Spiritual Direction Supervision: Principles, Practices and Storytelling, Lucy writes:
In the musical The Sound of Music, the newly hired governess Maria begins to teach the children how to sing. She starts by saying, “When you read, you begin with A, B, C. When you sing, you begin with Do, Re, Mi.”
It seems to me that when you begin to talk about supervision you need to start with spiritual direction.
Lucy goes on to say that how you define spiritual direction will have a direct influence on how you work as a supervisor. As you prepare to join us for this robust conversation, you are invited to consider your definition of spiritual direction and how that shapes your expectations of supervision.
